“One of the best things about the internet is that queer people can learn about each other's experiences, no matter where they are. One of my main goals is simply to connect Russian queer creatives to a wider global context”.

— Anastasiia Fedorova for i-D Magazine

Russian Queer Revolution is a platform dedicated to celebrating Russia’s LGBTQI+ creatives. Being part of Russia’s LGBTQI+ community often means facing harassment, violence, discrimination and erasure. Under Russia’s so-called ‘gay propaganda law’, in place since 2013, there is no space for LGBTQ+ representation in the country’s cultural mainstream – whether that’s in the media, public spaces or in education. Undeterred, however, a new generation of Russian artists, designers, photographers, musicians, activists, writers and educators make up a burgeoning queer underground. They are keen to prove that the Russian queer experience is not just pain – but also a great deal of beauty, joy, pleasure, pride, creativity and talent.

Russian Queer Revolution is an ongoing curatorial project set up by Anastasiia Fedorova in January 2020. One of the key aims of Russian Queer Revolution is to connect Russia’s LGBTQ+ creatives with the global community, and to create a visual archive of Russian LGBTQI+ creativity in the context of global queer culture.

Russian Queer Revolution is a multifaceted project which includes online gallery on Instagram, installations, events and fundraisers.
